Tourism Stakeholders Safety & Security Training
Author: Imelda Ndomo
Date: 25 Apr 16

Security is integral to quality tourist experiences. To this end, KTF works closely with the tourism trade and relevant public institutions to monitor and mitigate security risks to tourists in the country to safeguard them as well as promote their legitimate rights.

KTF hosted 35 tourism & travel professionals responsible for security, operations and transport to a two day training on security and road safety. The training was held at Nairobi Safari Walk on 16th - 17th February.

The training was facilitated by a diverse panel of experts in the field of security drawn from the Kenya Police, National Transportation Safety Authority, National Counter Terrorism Center, KWS, Tourism Regulatory Authority and Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) champions.

Addressing the forum, TPU reiterated that the industry through the respective trade associations is integral to addressing current security & safety challenges especially those related to ethics and standards. It is in this regard that TPU recommends that all operators belong to duly licensed trade associations of ethical standing and that have in place a code of ethics and standards.

The training concluded with certification of successful participants, presided by KWS Assistant Director for Marketing, Paul Mbugua.

KTF is scheduled to host similar trainings in various regions across the country. The next scheduled training will be held in Mombasa.
