East Africa Tourism Portal Goes Live
Author:
Date: 28 Feb 17

The East Africa portal was announced in Uganda during the Pearl of Africa Expo in February 2017. It provides an avenue for all stakeholders in the tourism industry to market and advertise their products. It also provides travelers an avenue to select different (multi-country) travel packages.

The portal's target clientele includes the student traveler, young professionals, families, business travelers and luxury tourists. The Primary Objective of the EAC portal is  to promote Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda as the preferred tourist destination in Africa, raise awareness of the individual countries tourism products and stir interest in the destination from both local and international visitors looking online for ‘the next place'.

Listing on the portal will be exclusively for tourism operators registered with their respective trade apex bodies or tourism boards for Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, the three partner states under the ‘Joint Tourism Marketing Initiative'.  EATP seeks to partner with as many interested tourism trade operators as possible.

EATP in collaboration with the tourism private sector apex bodies for Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda is embarking on a training drive to create awareness and equip tourism practitioners under the apex organizations on the skills required for the use of the EAC portal.

Kenya has three scheduled trainings- 24th March - Western (Kisumu), 6th April - Coast (Mombasa) and 11th April - Nairobi.

The training is open only to bonafide, paid up members of the seven key tourism trade associations that comprise Kenya Tourism Federation.

Note:

The East Africa Tourism Platform is the private sector body for tourism in East Africa, working towards promoting the interest and participation of the private sector in the East African Community integration process.

Since its inception, EATP has been credited for joint marketing initiatives under the East Africa Northern Corridor, technical support for national associations to enhance the regional destination competitiveness. EATP declared 2017 as the "East Africa Year of Travel" through the launch of the EAC Portal: http://www.visiteastafrica.org/

The EAC Portal is an initiative of the ‘Joint Tourism Marketing Committee' under the ‘Northern Corridor Projects', implemented through EATP.
